Had mine in pre-order since last Sept and was delivered on Friday by PLAY. Had to rebuild my machine though as it was royally fucked before I could install it and only played 1 hour of it so far last night with it being Mothers Day yesterday and other things.

Enjoyed it though so far from the little I have played, I'm thinking it will keep me occupied nicely spread between EVE and CS:S.

Cancelled RF Online subs as it wasn't as much fun as I had hoped, but I think that Oblivion will be perfect for me as I can just hit TAB and pause it when the wifey starts mythering.

I'm seeing my gaming deffo moving towards SP since the baby came along tbh, most of my time in EVE is AFK skill training tbh.

I don't think I am going to mess about with proper MMO's for a good while and just keep EVE ticking over with quick hit missions now and again. I may consider re-subbing to WoW when the expansion comes out, but only if it offers a new class that looks interesting, I shan't be using it to level any existing chars to the raised cap level.

Gor Oblivion on me 360 and its bloody ace !

Excellent grfx and unbeleivable sound in 5.1 surround. Gameplay seems good also but I aint had time to play much more than an hour or 2, still not worked out which class to go with.

I ended up picking Monk, although I'm a little unsure still how hand to hand combat will pan I like the idea of stealth, blade and markmanship.

I just dabble everynow and again, even less skilled than normal, I keep meaning to add the server that you mentioned but keep forgetting.

I just grab 20 mins here and there really, w/e of EVE which I log in and go AFK on while I wait for skill training to complete.

Time is the problem at the moment, very busy at work and at home.

I started playing this yesterday. There's far far too many options when choosing a character, I could've sat there for hours messing around with the face design thing. In the end I went with a tiger guy and killed some rats with a sword. So far I have absoloutely no idea what I'm doing or what button brings up the inventory. I can't even figure out if I'm meant to fight in first or third person as I can't seem to see where I'm swinging in third. Having said that I'm only played it for about 10-15 minutes so far so I'm sure the addiction will kick in after a few hours solid play.

I recommend using first person view when fighting.

Click middle mouse button to switch between 1st/3rd person. I stay in 1st person nearly all the time as, as you say, you can't hit or select shit in 3rd.

When ever I play a game that lets you progress/level at your own rate, I always seem to enjoy levelling up the character more than completing the game. By the time I come back to the main quest line my char is so over powered that there's no challenge.

Oh... and things you shouldn't be without are:
- Azura's Star.
- Skeleton Key.
- The site which holds the above links.

I've just started playing this again at the weekend too, got my assassin to level 9.

No idea what to do with soul gems or shit though, I just keep doing random quests.

Soul gems are used for capturing the souls of mobs that you kill (but only black soul gems can capture human or Dremora souls). Basically the mob has to be affected by a soul trap spell when it dies for the soul to be captured. That can be done in a number of ways, such as the following:
- Spell (Soul Trap on touch/target for x seconds)
- Having a weapon enchanted with soul trap.

The more powerful the mob, the better the Soul Gem has to be to capture it (Azura's Star captures any soul except human and Dremora, as above). You can waste Grand Soul Gems however as lesser mob souls can be captured in higher level gems.

The benefits of having a captured soul are:
- You can use the soul to recharge your magic items
- You can enchant weapons (number of charges dependent on level of Soul Gem)
- You can enchant armour with permanent effects.

Oooooh sounds good, I just need to level up for the soul trap spell then I will do that quest.

Recharging magic items starts to get a bit expensive when you start relying on them. It costs a gold per charge from t'magic merchants so you're talking 1600 gold for player enchanted stuff and up to 3000 gold for some high end quest or mob drops.
Now that I'm rock 'ard, I just have a daedric dagger enchanted with Soul Trap on strike for 2 seconds. So every non-human mob I kill can be used to recharge my items.

That sounds pretty cool, I just need to stop the client crashing to desktop and find some more spare time too I think, I've had this game since release but as much as I enjoy it I just never seem to get round to playing it.

Same with HL2, AoE3, Civ IV, etc etc

Nah, I've had a look around and I couldn't see anything, it crashes normally when I zone.

It could even be that I am using the noCD patch because I hate putting disks in when I play, I'll rename the original .exe back and see what happens.

I'm not really liking it either. Got killed by some kind of mage troll thing yesterday and switched it off. I get the feeling I'm not meant to be wondering around in heavy armour and a shield if I want to be a fast stabby thing.

I'm a level 6 dark elf agent. I've got no idea wtf im supposed to do though. I never go outside into the wilderness cos it kills my PC so i just hop from town to town doing the little side quests until im big and powerful enough not to get ass raped doing the first Kvatch oblivion gate.

joined all 3 guilds and the dark brotherhood, just murdered a pirate captain the other day. i rock, didnt have any lockpicks to get into his chest though

I did the Kvatch portal at level 2 and had no problems as an assassin.

I think you need to go to a church or a temple to get rid of being diseased, not sure though as I don't have that problem as I'm a lizard race and can't get diseased.

You need to go see a Thieves guild doyen (some bloke on the waterfront, where you start the Thieves guild quest or Scrivva in Bravil (first house on right through gate)). They can get rid of your fines/bounty for a fee. Then you can remove your pox via the church altars.

That doesn't work (believe me, I'm the Listener (*cough* assassins' guild business)) - you need to start making good deeds for the 9 to listen to ya.

Or make pots - easier ot make pots, really. Who cares what the 9 ones think of you, just work for the Daedra gods instead. They're much cooler anyway.

Kvatch? Is that the bit where you go through a portal to see where the gaurds have gone cos some city has been taken over? If so I'm wondering around there now, I was on my way to find the Emperor's son so thought I'd have a look. I don't think I've levelled at all so am either lvl 1 or 0 I'm also a knight apparently as I selected that and wonder around in heavy armour.

The one living guy I found on the other side of the portal is already dead though I'm making good use of his sword Still no idea what I'm meant to be doing. I spend most of my time following the red arrow and picking up herbs along the way even though I forgot to pick up the pestle and mortar \o/ Oh my torch ran out too but I can apprently see in the dark if I believe what it said on the character selection thing.

it seems certain aspects of the game level as you do. so kvatch at level 1 is just as hard as it would be at level 10.

i recommend joining the dark brotherhood. the armour you get from joining is awesome with great +stats.

and ive already got 90% fire resist being a dark elf with 75% and a 15% ring.

i started some kind of mage thing last night but under the atronarch sign.

no mana regen but 50% spell absorbtion to regen it. kinda weird.

Is there any way to level bows without actually using them in combat? Rats seem to need about 4 shots which is a bit crap when they're biting you so I'm always using my sword and sheild but it would be quite nice to kill casters before they get a shot off on me.

Think you have to use it to level.

I've got a wicked Bow now man. Loving running up to the top of the lighthouse and firing Arrows insanley high in the air until I get a pirate down by the dock! Soon see people running up towards the light house....time to jump off screaming

I started murdering and thieving from the offset.

i tried not to, but accidentally murdered someone in a cave and it came up with 'someone is watching you' or something like that.

so i went to get some sleep in an inn and in the middle of the night this guy from the dark brotherhood woke me up and told me to go to their HQ.

so I did, and i'm now a fully fledged murderer.

Same goes for some spells. For example, you can't level Alteration by standing on the spot and casting 'Open easy lock' in to thin air. The spell has to hit an 'openable' target (but it doesn't have to be locked).

If you have the patience and you can find a suitable place where mobs can't get to, you can stand there blasting them and drinking restore mana potions to level whatever attacking spell line.

To level Conjuration, get the bound dagger spell (or make a spell to 'bound dagger on self for 1 second') and just sheath the dagger as soon as it appears to dispel it. Rinse and repeat til bored.

And, when you have access to the Arcane University, you can make your own low power spells i.e. 'restore health on self for +1' or 'damage health on self -1', which level Restoration and Destruction spell lines nicely

To level acrobatics, find a cupboard which puts your head as near to the ceiling as possible and press autorun. Then just press the jump key to infinity. As the time it takes for you to complete the jump is much reduced (i.e. leave ground and land) you level very quickly. Running up a steep incline and jumping has the same effect but hills aren't endless.

To level athletics, find some water with a wall round it (in Imperial City), stick yourself on autorun and go to bed. Come back to a few levels in the morning.

Levelling is based solely on how many times you perform an action and does not take in to account how powerful a spell or weapon swing is. So you only need to cast the lowest spell, in any particular line, ad infinitum to level effectively.

Spells can be levelled (to a certain level at least) by creating a lowbie version (cast whatever 1 point self - "Feather" for example, or whatever it was called) and just keeping the key pressed. At some point you'll run out of mana, but it will recast as soon as you have the mana for it. Watch a movie or something while you're doing it - works well enough

guards. You kill someone. sneak around in dark corners, stealth mode
etc just basically stay hidden and blam he's right in front of you.

The game usually minimizes once for me and when I maximize again I can't move so have to kill it in task manager. I suspect yahoo messenger is to blame for that though or possibly some other pop-up.

I got me a horse though. Well in theory. The prior is dead and I've been told I can have his \o/. Can't help but feel the game consists of a hell of a lot of running from one place to another with very little action in between though.

You have been a bad boy n3m!! The trick is to kill innocent people where guards can't see or hear. If you have any magic skill, you can always cast invisibility and sneak off to the nearest thieves guild doyen to remove your bounty.
The game never crashes for me mate. Don't know what's going on there.

Could be a firewall pop-up. The game is a bit fussy about task switching. When this happens, try going in to Task Manager and 'Switch To' the game. You may have to alt-tab once after this for some strange reason. Anyway, it works for me.

There is a lot of running in the game initially. But the map screen is populated with icons for all the places that you've discovered. You can click on the icon to fast travel there but your athletics skill will not improve while fast travelling. There are mountains of quests in this game and loads of nooks and crannies to find and kill stuff in. It's just a case of discovering it. Improving your disposition with people, via the persuade icon face thingy, and asking about rumours often reveals a sub-quest.

I don't like talking to people, they always want my gold.

How do I stop being a knight? Just running at things and swinging a sword doesn't seem to require much skill if any I wear heavy armour, use a shield and can heal myself. I feel like a dirty paladin.

When you created your character you would have specified some options that would benefit the particular class you were going to play but there's nothing to stop you finding some light armour and putting it on. Each time you get hit in armour it levels your skill in that armour type. You'll probably always be called a knight though. You shape your character how you want by using the appropriate skills. If you want to start sneaking, hit the Ctrl key and sneak all the time. Your sneak skill will soon start to level. If you want to improve your security skill go buy a shit load of lockpicks. If you want to become a mage then start casting (although if you didn't select a magic type char and options then you'll be severly limited in terms of maximum magicka).

oh and your character level only increases when you have levelled your MAJOR skills a number of times. So if Heavy Armour is one of your major skills, it makes sense to continue to use it.

There are several major drawbacks with being a vampire.

Not being able to move around in daylight.
People going "I REFUSE TO TALK TO YOU MONSTER!"

I think that was the drawbacks, really. It's cool being a vampire, though - so go for it. Easiest way is just standing around letting vampires beat you up, second easiest is working with the Dark Brotherhood - you'll get offerd to become a vampire afte a while.

The arena is a pain to finish if you're a vampire, though

dont forget to steal the 500g in the arena chest outside where the guy takes your bets ..

wait until night and sneak out of the arena fighters entrance and get the max range to access the chest lockpick away

i started again but have reached lvl 9 closed 3 gates and located another 5.
also got the addons for the extra quest lines and 2 free buildings.

I've been given the location of another shrine \o/ also joined the mages guild and the fighters guild too as cash was becoming a little hard to come by.

I'm also finding it hard to go around the oblivion gates, they seem to be EVERYWHERE I just cba to do them all, atleast not until I can repair magical items myself.

use the soul gems you loot to repair magic items ..

im just leveling enough magic skills for the soul trap spell so i can load the gems myself then ..

I mean to actually fix them not recharge them. I got a sigel or something that put a chant on my sword to trap souls anyways so I don't need to worry about getting spells, I jut hit mobs with it and it does the trick

I tell a lie, my soul sword ran out of charges as I never seemed to have a soul gem big enough or something. Ran around twatting mobs with a shitty 4 damage dagger :s. Got my Skeleton key though \o/ I'm actually enjoying all the quests that don't relate to the main chain or the oblivion gates.
