What do you assorted dole scum, students and layabouts who can afford to spend so much time playing the game actually think of it after the first few days then?

So far its pretty damn good .
Fun to play and a combat system that beats anything else before it hands down. Graphically its pretty stunning at times and the char detail is impressive right down to my chars perky tits when i go topless. Another nice touch is the way you have a choice to MP or SP. Daytime for multiplayer and night-time for single player. Also each game world server has multiple instances of the main play world. EG. If you log on to the game and as the day goes by it starts getting laggy just hop to another "instance" where there will be less players on it. Only thing that does at first is confuse people when they group. Reading /ooc with people saying but we r standing right next to each other but i cant see him is still funny for me

Best way i can describe the game is its kinda like an MMO version of Oblivion.

Nice screenies, although the system requirements needed to play the game well make me wince! One thing has always got me with AoC though (an to a lesser extent EvE too), and that is the design choices they made for the User Interface.

Yes, I am a UI geek, but having non anti-aliased text in a game with those kind of graphics just irks me. It just looks wrong... half the screen in glorious techni-colour, half in DOS or Excel.

I know if I played it for a long time, it would just get to me. It for me highlights the one area where WoW got it right... a high polish, a gloss even on the game controls, that just seems to set it apart.

On that rig, it's not gonna be fun playing tho.

But I can tell you that it runs great on a c2d E6600 with 2gb of ram and a 7800GTX on medium settings and 1280x1024 (roommate's comp) and it runs flawless at max settings with a Q9450, an 8800ultra, 4gb of ram and vista x64

once you dip into the lowend 7xxx series for nvidia, or out of the core2duo/highend AMD lines, you're either gonna have to lower the resolution or tone the graphics quality down by quite a bit

Had some awesome fun last night grpd with Triggs and Nat.

My new playstyle has become "look just fukin pull everything, Triggs you tank it. Ill stand here and nuke and heal at the same time."

We were taking up to 3 "elite" mobs at the same time with sometimes between 5 - 10 adds aswell.

Just glad Triggs can take a beating and also that my healing seems more effective than i first thought ..

Well, I checked a few things out last night, and it looks like AoC will suck to play on my Mac, as I only have one trackpad button... and graphically, it may be a bit too much for Windows under Bootcamp driver wise.

I am buying a new gaming laptop PC when my tax rebate comes in, so I've decided to buy a copy of AoC too...

Was in the tradeskill/gathering zone last night and it still runs absolute shite on my pc atm with everything low and in 1024x768, but better than in connal valley so may stay there until the postman turns up

the laptop lasted me 3 1/2 years which isn't too bad, my pc hasn't been upgraded in probably about 5 though, it has a hard enough time running 3 leagues in fm08

I don't think I even have FM08, though all games run like shite on my PC which stops me playing them using onboard graphics certainly helps prevent game addiction.

I got it now \o/ tis good fun so far, just tryin out diff chars atm tryin a PoM out now.

My comp cant really handle it only have a gig ram with vista, need to upgrade my comp but all my money seems to go on beer =(

Xui, overall verdict after 1st week mate, is it worth bothering with?? will it have long term playability or is it just a stand in untill WAR comes out?

Imo Conan has long term playability and tbh even if you only get to 80 and play for a couple of months after its well worth it just for the ride .. Its a fukin fun game.
Stumbled across the foundations of a couple of player cities that have been reserved already and they look as though theyre gonna be huge.
Its def not a wow clone. The combat system for a hack n slash melee char is just that hack n slash. Finishing moves are awesome no matter how many times you see them and the actual combat control is like no other.

Thsi game gets a Xui 4.8 / 5. Would be a 5 but as with any new mmo theyre running a few patches atm.

Got to love a game when a finishing move consists of a backhanded decapitation followed for luck on the counter swing with a disembowelling.
As 'Xui says it is actually amazingly fun and it could well have legs (and boobies).

I would advise against a gaming laptop for a game like conan. Tried beta on an RL m8's Dell XPS M1730 (c2d T9300, 4gigs of RAM, SLI 512mb Geforce 8800M GT) at 1280x1024 with no AA, and he got about 10 FPS at medium gfxsettings.

Gaming laptops are OK for games using "older" gfxengines, but as soon as Shader Model 3 gets used, forget achieving over 20 FPS.

If you must have something portable that can run Conan at a pleasant FPS, you'll have to wait for the next generation of xpressport gfxcards.

How time intensive is it though? I'm finding less n less time to play MMO's at the moment, due to a variety of RL issues, and have been quite happy nipping on WOW for the odd hour or two at a time and levelling a hunter (now 64, nearly 65).

i.e. is it low level friendly or a time sink a.k.a. WOW. ???

I'm in the same boat Thurs. Any MMO is a time sink though. You'll fly through the first few levels and there is a single player type arrangement where you can enter night mode and follow a storyline (and difficulty it seems) that is aimed at singl players. Whether it is a time sink or not, it is new and fun. Caster chars are pretty much in the same mould as other MMOs but, as Xui said, melee combat is more engaging than your standard quickbar masher. The game UI/interaction does need a little refining but that will come.

Only one word to say... Ouch! Time for a rethink, if it is that gpu/cp intensive, I'm very tempted to pass, seems like craziness!

My spec are 2.3Ghz dual core, 2GB DDR2, 8600GT Gforce and i can put it onto high quality and it runs at average 18fps so not bad

It's not all about that tbh, it is a richly detailed, immersive world with varied and challenging enemy's and OMG did you see the jubblies on that pirate bird I just disembowelled?
