The difference is that Mythic designed Daoc, the reason why so many still play the game.

not even end game Rvr is a real good laugh and challenge on DAOC, Mythic know what it is about and they will not let us down

From what I've heard from some beta testers is that the game sucks.

EA's problem is they only do sports sims to a decent level, by getting mythic on board they have invested in a very good company that is very good at what it does. It took a while for Mythic to agree to a deal because they wanted the companies values kept in place.

Just think about how big Daoc could have been with someone like EA's financial backing for advertising..

They have kept their fingers out of Mythics plans because they know they are the best people to do the job, EA can simply sit back and reap the rewards of Mythics hard work.

The dev's ideas for pvp and constant content unblocking is pretty radical. The game is nowhere near beta ready so I am not surprised current beta testers aren't impressed.

what makes me want to get this tho is DAOC. Yes levelling in Daoc was shit - utterly shit but recent feedback is that Mythic have fixed the grind so it's about right now.

What's really important however is what keeps DAOC popular. RVR. Not PVP. That's where Mythic > all. Player vs Player is for Fps games. This is MMORPG - REALM vs REALM. Massive fights, epic contests, Frontiers falling, castles being taken. THAT'S what makes me want to play this. That and I always loved GW Goblins

No other game has the level of endgame lifespan that DAoC has, this is where WoW fell down for me, I hit 60 and couldn't bring myself to grind for items that have no real benefit in all honesty when I could play DAoC and go on a relic raid or keep take to get DF, hmmmm darkness fallsssss....

No one's actually commented on the footage there, which looks like a boring slugfest. Where's the positional tactics, the use of range and space, etc? Ok most of them were melee, but even in a melee vs melee fight in WoW, the players are moving around the place quite a bit.

The sounds were annoying as fuck too.

I'm hopeful, but won't be putting any money on it, that WAR will be a real corker when it comes out. Ewul all the way for me, as per the poll in the request a game section (where's a mod when you need one ). Really hoping that PvP will be so much better than WoW but with new classes and abilities I'm sure that there will be just as much class balancing as ever.

there were a couple of positionals there - behind stuns and the what not but it's hard to judge the effects of the combat without knowing what the icons over the head meant.

People are right about those sounds though. Hoping beta testers and everyone else who's listened to that video will be feeding back about that annoying AoE effect boing noise.

I agree with Delta, although people slate the purpose of pvp in wow it is the closest to a twitchy combat style in an mmo ive seen for long while.

True. But theyve plastered official logos all over that vid, so they seem quite proud of what theyre showing us. I cant see it changing much. Goose has a point about not knowing whats really happening with no UI etc, but it still looks very stagnant.

Ill no doubt give it a shot anyway, I just hope I dont end up wanting WoW style PvP with WH objective gameplay (the flipside to the WoW needs DaoC RvR gripes).

If im honest i doubt ill stop playing wow until Huxley is released.

well seeing as its so early in production I kinda assumed the sounds were just place holders. With more production effects later on.

Yeah, those sound fx are ... rather bad.

It was my understanding that the game is still in Alpha stage & due to go into 1st stage beta (not much better than alpha), & is scheduled for 2nd stage beta (friends/& invited testers) in ealry spring, with a view to the game being relased sometime after summer. The combat does look clunky (its not static, you can see people moving around, I guess they just choose to stand like that), & the sounds are awful, but those are things I would expect to change & improve during testing...

On another note, while the greenskins do look appealing & being an Orky-boy would indeed be great fun, I think I will settle on a Chaos character, because out of all the races in the game & possible future races to be added the chaos will still have the most versatility for character development not only mentaly but physically too (tentacles anyone?)

Still its half a year before we are likely to see the game, there is a long time still left for them to get it right or fuck it up completely. PS, nice to see the new trailer where the empire's priest gets ass wh00ped.

they're chaos undivided I think - which is probably a good thing otherwise Chaos wouldn't make it out of the northern wastes full stop.

There's elements of tzeentch in the casters and nurgle in the warriors atm. I suspect that there will be a slaanesshi type char and a khorne type char

I've said it before and I'll say it again "Warhammer is for geeks" this game is only being made to try and make the people at Games Workshop somehow seem appealing and perhaps one day one of them may get some sex due to their vast knowledge of wizards or what ever the hell the know. They make computer nerds seem like Brad Pitt in comparison.

No fucking way am I rping, I will go out of my way to distance myself from rpers same as I always do in MMO's.

You are about to start playing an mmorpg and you all want to go chaos and not one of you who's calling me a geek has bothered to consider what I've said.

You might not want to RP, I sure as shit don't but what you have to realise is that the fuckwit quota within chaos is bound to be high. Most of these fuckwits pass off griefing as Roleplay - ala Neocron.

Chaos is possibly the most popular army on the tabletop game and the kids love it cos it's twinkville. I.E it's horribly overpowered on ttg and they get to spank people with big hard weapons.

If they don't make the chaos faciton chaos undivided and you can attack same faction players expect to be griefed by 14 yr old's as they 'roleplay' the infighting that exists between the various chaos factions according to the lore.

Now I suspect mythic and gw have already twigged this which is why all of the chaos models so far are shorn of most of the devices assosciated with particular chaos gods.

Now -
Chaos for Idiots who don't want to rp 101

4 factions
Nurgle - Disease and rot (looks like the tanky type as per the screenie)
Tzeentch - Magic (looks like a caster as per the caster screenie)
Khorne - Blood
Slaanesh - Seduction & Lust

You don't have to be a ttg geek to know this and trust me it will help you in the start because I suspect the home faction of each class will effect how they progress within the game.

bearing in mind the Caster screenie already has all the hallmarks of Tzeentch about him and the Tanky looking screenie has some elements of Nurgle there's a good chance that a stealthy type of char will be slaanesh and a bezerker dps tank type of char will be khorne based.

I paint and collect metal figures, sometimes I play ttg games using the figures I've painted and collected. Now fuck off you Arsenal Supporters!
