Gamespot introduce the Tome of Accomplishments and mention the whole "levelling through pvp" idea which mythic have recently introduced to DAOC

Absolutely Brilliant Dev chat on Slash dot

As a quick final note, seeing the words "diplomacy" and "Warhammer" in the same sentence brought a smile to my face. If, by "diplomacy," you mean the pillaging, desecration and slaughter of your hated foes, their homes and their belongings, then yes, it's a VERY diplomatic game. If you meant it in any other way, then no, diplomacy isn't really part of the equation.

Has some good info on how they see character progression, RvR and storyline working together.

If they pull that off this game will just simply rock

Only think I miss from Daoc is RvR. In fact I've been so tempted to resubscribe and just play in the battlegrounds on so many occasions. It's such fun, that's all there is to it :)

I never once tried DAoC, I was a SWG fanboy much to my later shame (SOE can suck my big hairy cojones before I every play a game from them again tbh).
I heard the RvR in DAoC was not bad, if you like that sort of thing

I sound like a broken record when I criticise WOW's PVP and compare it to DAOC's.

The whole thing about Mythic is they understand EPIC combat, not just 20 vs 20 or 40 vs 40 but 100's vs 100s. Castles falling, frontiers shrinking and expanding. Listen to any of the ex-daocers who quit wow and they will all say the same thing.

In wow when you ding 60 you can raid for epics which increase your abilities but only really make a massive difference in PVP. In Wow the PVP is pointless. The honour system revamp is the first step (I think) by blizzard to try and remedy this. I do however, think it's too little too late. I like the pve end game in wow. It's a real shame, however, that there isn't more RvR like pvp.

WoW would never be able to become balanced enough for RvR/PvP in any way.

And yes, DAoC was awesome for RvR/PvP - which is why I was so disappointed when I first tried out PvP in WoW (I did roll on a PvE server by choice tho - can't stand the fucking retards on PvP servers)

Agreed re: pvp servers az.

Have to say it tho - Daoc worked because it WASN'T balanced. 20 seconds mesmerise spells? o_O

The key to a successful night rvring was getting the mez in first and then getting on the assist train and twatting the healers/sorcerors/bards down. This was improved by the Realm Abilities but then heavily fuckoed in Trials of Atlantis (the final straw for me)

It was a real shame - if you see how popular daoc classic is (no toa) it's amazing how many people find the original (allegedly unbalanced) daoc fun to play.

People moaned on Daoc if their Char could not kill every other char out there :p

I was happy as my scout owning casters at range, but getting owned in a hand to hand fight. It was all about picking the best time to fight to increase survival.

I must say I loved ToA Goose the new dungeons were amazing, on a side note though Mythic have looked at what was wrong with it i.e. time commitments and changed it so its alot easy for the casual player to get through the ml's.

I dont think they would make the same mistake again.

They fucked it with the ML's Cal. The time sink was bad but the ML's were fucking horrible.

Bodyguard, grapple? Two skills that never, ever should've been invented imo.

Never mind the fact they said all through the dev log that TOA wouldn't effect rvr. It had more of an unbalancing effect on rvr than anything that came before.

Granted - DAoC wasn't balanced. That didn't matter much when you were 50 players though. How many in WoW? The arena sizes are 2v2, 3v3 and 5v5. Real massive :P

I did that for a couple of months and really enjoyed it, never got a char above 24 and just fucked about in BG's.

Owned as in you were a stealth class, with long range attack, an infiltrator meat shield (read mug) and a penchant for Linford Christie like runs in the direction opposite to the action? ;)
