Aight, i might have solved my lag issues in about 2 days.

Here is what i did, i orderd:

1. PowerColor Radeon HD 4870X2 2GB GDDR5
2. Corsair Dominator TWIN2X8500C5D 4096MB
3. Asus P5Q, P45, Socket-775, DDR2
4. Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.4GHz (that i will OC to 2.8-3ghz mayby higher when i get a better cooler, they are known to clock stable at 3.6Ghz)

and this should hopefully sort my ingame lag issues.

A GPU instead of a CPU? I know it's all about the GFX but...

;)

If you wanna overclock, get yourself a watercool kit. They aren't all that pricy now and are pretty simple to install as long as you have the space in your case. This will really help you push those chip speeds up. Im running a E8500 (3.16ghz) stable at 4.5Ghz and thats with 2 graphics cards in the loop also.

TBH graphics aint a big thing in this game, even a low end card could run it well, as for better games i.e. crysis n stuff i know run quad SLI wi 2 9800GX2s plus a Q6600 running at 3.7ghz per core, and it runs crysis maxed out at a smooth 110fps apart from the ice stages where it drops to about 60 to 80fps

Well, watercooling is something im thinking about actualy cause it would be nice to clock up to 3.6Ghz to get rid of most of the bottleneck the CPU will be for this monster GPU, from pretty much all tests ive read there is no CPU on the market that wont bottleneck this card. Either that or i missunderstod the reviews. :)

And for this game, im currently on a 8800GTS 640mb, and im getting slideshows, but tbh i think its more of a CPU issue then a GPU issue, anyways it will be solved as soon as my package arrives.

I was under the impression that quad core is totally wasted unless you are running some kinda of music mixing/design software?

That is not entierly true, altough most games dont benefit from a quad CPU, it can still help unload some of the work from the CPU, like handling ventrilo, mp3 players, movie players, and so on since you can manualy tell aplication on what core to run, and in that way you could free up your 2 main cores for 100% gameing, and i suspect that in a near future more and more quad compatible games will appear.

Even in single/dual core supported games a quad can help outpreform it, i guess even if the game aint quad core compatible the GPU might be.

Im not an expert on this, its just what ive gatherd from many, many, many houres of reading up before putting in my order :)

How'd you do that then? Do you need some 3rd party software?

This is on Vista (Will work on XP as well I think):

Open Task Manager
Goto the Processes tab
Right-click the process you want and choose "Perform Administrative Tasks"
Right-click the process again and choose "Set Affinity..."
There you can set the core which the program should or shouldn't use.

Not sure if these settings are kept after a reboot.

You should be carefull with this though, as processes with set affinities will not use other cores but the core you've set the affinity to will not prioritize the process. In extreme cases this could render a process unresponsive, and with that your Windows installation unstable.
