Looking into getting a new monitor, anyone got any advice/views on what brands to go for or to definitely avoid?

Heard mixed things about Samsung monitors for example and quite like the look of them...

By monitor do you mean CRT or TFT?

My advice is get a nice 19" TFT - you'll be amazed how cheap they are these days and as long as you ensure you get a 12ms or 8ms one (depending on budget) you'll be delighted by it.

Alot of the monitors these days come with usb hubs too so you can connect all your defvices to the pc via the monitor if you wish

Aye TFT for sure, looking at getting two for dual monitor uberness. Possibly one of which widescreen. Budget not that big a problem at the moment, obviously not looking to spend insane amounts.

I've got a dell 12ms thing, 19"

But i never use it cos im always on my laptop. When i do use it though the response time is shite compared.

I'll have a word downstairs, I know a man who loves monitors.

dont go for any tft with a response time over 8ms if u want to use it for gaming.

Dual widescreens is the way forward imo. Just make sure your gfx card can handle the widescreen resolution/gfx setgings u want to use.

Not much use going 19" wide if ur gfx card's a shitty Radeon 9200

I use a Samsung Syncmaster 930BF but the world seems to be moving towards widescreen. Anyway the 930BF works for me. No ghosting in movies or games. Good contrast and colour. Native res is 1028x1024. No USB hub. No stand adjustment (tilt only).

Why?

It's not that much of a drain, but the older cards will have problems keeping up the framerate on the monitors. Surely if u go dual widescreen u use 1 for gaming and the other for browsing.

I chuck things like XFire and Vent into monitor 2, while I game on monitor 1, never really have any major problems with frame rates in all honesty.

I have 2 Phillips Brilliance 200w

Really good res clear picture. Has VGA or DVI input and handy USB port in the side and all sorts of other shit thats cool

Id reccomend it to anyone ..

Dual widescreens would be a bit of a gamble for me, I need to sample some widescreen gaming action before I go all in and get two I think. I've had Philips TFT's before and always been decent so they are definitely an option.

I have a square one, which is 17"!

I have no idea what make it is or all this other stuff u speak of......but i do know it has a parrot in one of the corners!

The dell one looks damn nice, would the 16ms be that noticeable compared to a 8ms monitor though?

Thanks for all the advice guys, went for the Dell Inv recommended and picked out an NEC 20WGX for gaming on. Dell has picture in picture hooked up to Sky atm, fucking loving it.
