As you should all know by now (especially goose :x ) i'm no techy.

I'm assuming the processor has fried as it boots up for 5 seconds then shuts down. It was only an athlon 2400 anyhoo, so am prolly gonna take the opportunity to spend a bit of dosh.

Monitor, keyboard etc are all fine so i can save a few bob there.

I was only running a 2400xp, 1 gig ram and 9800 pro; so would hopefully be looking for a pretty decent upgrade without spending too much dosh. Nothing too fancy :)

I dunno how much time i'll have with the new job, so don't really wanna go over board.

Are there any sites that you guys recommend, or is it pretty much cheapest to build your own?

As always, any advice appreciated :)

ish

You need to spend money bringing that up to gaming spec tho. If you go with 1gb ram and an Nvdidia 7600GS you're looking at £370 including vat. That's a solid choice imo. I'd probably bump the processor up to a 3500 too and pay £450 including vat.

Aye, as it stands you won't really see much of a performance gain from the new system. I personally wouldn't touch a processor that wasn't atleast dual core now tbh.

Dual core = overrated. Progs still don't know how to use the full capacity of the proc.

AMD 64 - 3800+
1gb RAM
7600GS

And for the HDD get a SATA drive as this'll be more futureproof then the IDE version

Basically what Goose says ;)

Alltho u gave up on ur old rig quite easily, it was due for an upgrade anyways ;)

Yee but a processor usually lasts a couple of years and considering quad cores are on the way I'd expect developers to start using the extra power available. Plus some of the dual cores are cheap as chips now.

You don't need a 7600 to run WoW tho, in fact you barely need a 2GHz machine! :P

My PC is an absoloute heap of shit. The sad thing is Fish's knackered PC is better than mine :? It's even made me consider getting a new graphics card though really not sure it's worth it. My machine isn't even 2GHz :?

You can run it on an 800mhz box yanno.

I wonder if I could get it to run on the Xbox...

you do if you don't want it to look like some fucking retarded old school nintendo clone.

Get a 7600 fishy - trust me you won't regret it when you play a couple of rounds of counterstrike as it's SUPPOSED to look :)
