How do gents!

I'm getting graphics distortions with my 7600gs. It ranges in severity depending on how high my settings are. WoW runs fine, it only occurs on games like Quake4, CS:S and F.E.A.R

It ranges from small blocks of bright multi-colour, to complete distortion and stretched textures. Making the games unplayable.

I've updated to the latest drivers but it makes little difference.

Anyone had these probs before?

heat problem?

Check the fans on the card for dust and if they're spinning at all.

That's the problem, the machine was pre-built and if i open it i void the warranty.

If that's what i gotta do though then that's what i'll do :)

EDIT: Just found the Temperature Monitor on NVIDIA's control panel.
It was running at a steady 56 degrees but still completley unplayable.

how many people have you arrested? have you shot anyone yet?

could be a directx problem, failing that just hit it with a hammer and send it back to the shop

I've searched the web and found lots of similar issues with the same card, but no fix.

I've been told that i should try updating my mobo drivers and chipset drivers?

Is this an easy operation to do for a simpleton like myself?

Board: ASUSTeK Computer INC. A8V-VM Rev 1

Thats the mobo and i havn't a friggin clue what a chipset is :>

Lo Fish.

Asus official downloads for your mobo here.

VIA official chipset drivers here.
edit: you have the K8M890 chipset.

Upgrading BIOS is a relatively simple process but make sure you either record all your BIOS settings before you start or read up on what they should be. Print out anything you need before you start and don't fuck it up. Read the installation destructions!

If your pc is newish, can you not shove it back to the shop?

Just sticking my nose in for a bit, but the problems you found on the net were they related to the gfx card or the systemboard? Did you try to update to the newest nvidia drivers?

Also, if u fuck the BIOS update up there is a reasonable possibility you will render your system unbootable. You might even loose your warranty on the board so this should be a last resort. Like Sift said, if u got warranty use it.
