I want to learn to program in Java.

Can anyone recommend a good Java programming environment to learn in (preferably a free one)

We only use Visual Studio here as we're all .NET based apparently and don't touch Java so I'm not much help but I did have a Google and found http://www.netbeans.org/ which looks quite nice to me. Seems to have a similar look to VS. I'll have to keep an eye on this topic though as I haven't done any coding in years and Java could be something to look in to especially as I plan to skip Vista and go to Linux which generalyl come bundled with a bunch of SDKs

Yeah I used NetBeans for my Java, is very nice to use with plenty of features and its free too
