So, tried to hook up the 360 to my computer (you know, for media streaming, which can be kinda nice). No dice. Doesn't work. Tried everything.

Know what I'll need? A goddamn router. I need to buy a router so that I'll get two quite specific IP's, so that the stupid piece of electric circuits can realize that hey, there IS a computer on this network.

Tried to roll with TVersityMediaServer as well, didn't work either.

I dunno... a simple switch should suffice, or so you'd think.

Switches don't provide IP adresses?

Can't you enter a static IP in the Xbox in the same range as your pc?

Hook the xbox up to the same gateway?

Or, if you've got a spare port on your ADSL/cable modem, plug it in directly?

And if you cant get the Xbox to respond to the DHCP service enable a static IP. Same range as your PC and make sure there's no conflict with other devices on the network.

Well mine uses the wireless network. I had to run some little bit of software on my pc, as im running XP Pro, but it worked. Shame i can only share from items placed in "My Music" or "My Video" folders in the My Documents section :/

I do know if you have Vista or MediaCentre its a lot easier.

It's hooked up to the same gateway, it's just that we get 5 IPs assigned, and those doesn't necessarily have to be in the same range (the PC is on xx.xx.155.xx while the 360 is on xx.xx.154.xx). I also don't have any kind of modem in my apartment, since I'm swedish and we have a lot better stuff than that available (LAN).

No, I think the only solution is to buy a router. Kinda silly, but no money compared to what I spent on the 360 in the first place.

It's also kinda silly to have 5 public IP adresses >.<

But a router will get both machines on the same subnet tho, that should solve your problems

I'd say having a router is essential anyways. Cuts down a lot of arsing around all the time and provides another firewall.

You only got one network card on the PC? Before I got a router I used to have one network card plugged into my modem then the other plugged into my laptop for sharing the net connection, the one in the modem was dhcp but the other was a static I assigned for a home workgroup.
