I'm leaving my system alone for a while as the 9000 series of GFX cards are starting to come through now.

S'up to you though as regardless of when you upgrade the rig will always be cheaper the following week. :)

March 18th for the 9800GT I think and afer that the GT2.

I do need to revisit the graphics cards options as somewhere in the back of my mind I seem to remember that 2x8800 was not that much faster than one card. But either way I think the 9000 series is going to be at a bit of a premium for a while. Now you've got me thinking and I've gone all old and sensible. I'm going to wait a bit as my current pc does me fine just now so I'll order nearer WAR/Conan release.

I found the overclockers pre built rigs were a bit pricey for what they were and they werent particularly flexible either.

Check out http://www.cyberpowersystem.co.uk/ - its where Jase and I both ordered, the build quality is amazing and the spec options are very good, its cheap(ish) too. I thought it was a much better option than the ones I could find on overclockers. The only fall back I found with the cyberpower stuff was that the case designs are all a tad "in your face" although mine looks a lot less garish in real life than the picture would indicate and the layout of it is brilliant, the CPU has never gone above 35 degrees no matter what I run on it.

Haha, I know, it even scares me mate.

I brought it all in just so that Neil would actually talk to me, I somewhat regret that decision now though :P

Prices have come down a bit. Still umming and ahhing but latest specs under consideration are here. I still have to phone these people to find out which non-branded components they use.

Both look Very nice.
*insert grumble about having to get a 8800 not a 9xxx*
I think with it was 2x8800gt was about the same or just out did the 8800gtx but cheeper..

Only reason I stick to single gfx is my power bills bad enough atm without the 1k psu.
I really should swap over to the 64bit OS tbh.. my 2GB ram seems sad now lol.

And with the cyberpowersystems site, poke about on it, as i remember the different base units sometimes come out cheeper.
But i'll back maci on them, got mine off them too..

From what I've read today, there's not really a lot of point going to 9 series cards at the moment mate. I play on a 22 inch screen so I think I will stick with one 8800GTX, which may make the price slightly more expensive but will be slightly more future proof as I won't change again for a while.

Latest contenders here.

8800gtx is a very nice card though.
I'm not the only person who has had issues with it crashing under vista.
Its 90% ok just seems to have its moments where the drivers go down and the only solution is a reboot.
I'll see if i got the links in hte morning atm i seem to have no jeans that aint for the wash.

Cheers Nat. That would be helpful. I've found a lot of reasons not to go SLI with Vista (and a few not to go SLI that don't involve Vista). Hopefully there are not many reasons not to go with a GTX :?

Mine runs perfectly on Vista with one 8800GT, not noticed any problems with any game or programme running on it at all. Dunno if its a problem with the GTX but the GT drivers seem to love Vista.

I'm running the 64 bit premium Vista too - dunno if that makes it any different either?

Its a small % of the cards that have issue (trust meto get one) i dont reacall any one running it on 64bit having the issue, and its mostly resolved.
(so thats something I'm trying along with 4gig more ram :D)

oh and with the processor i've a sx2 5200+ (OC 2.8ghz (more if i sus out why its playing up with anything but a x13multi) its not cutting it id get 3ghz.

If you're still looking I spotted this bargain this evening which looks half decent in all honesty for the money.

Cheers for keeping an eye out Neil. Gonna wait for a little bit longer. Would steer away from Dell as I seem to remember they use OEM perts a lot.

Same shit less packaging isn't it?

I should have said proprietary parts. Dell used to make subtle modifications to their hardware (e.g. PSUs, Motherboards) so that they ran slightly differently to similar products. When trying to swap stuff out, people found that replacement products didn't work quite how they expected. I've read stories of frazzled parts. Apparently they don't use proprietary parts any more but it's put me off. The cheapest place I have found so far is www.pcspecialist.co.uk.
