I need to get a new AV. AVG has turned into a massive bag of shit and does nothing so looking to change.

I also used the combination of the windows security centre and firewall for a while and that let a trojan get on my pc and made me have to wipe my hdd so that ones out too!

Was thinking of getting Kaspersky as people used to have good things to say about it, but was wondering what you guys use/would recommend so I can shop around a bit.

I used Avast, stopped using AVG a few years ago. I certainly prefer it. The only reason I'm not using it at the moment is because the new laptop came with McAfee SecurityCenter which seems ok so far despite a lot of people saying it's shite. If it wasn't pre-installed though I'd definitely be using Avast.

I had mcafee for a while but it seemed to really slow down my pc and didnt seem to do much good.

Atm trying Malwarebytes and Avira. Not seeing much of an improvement from AVG though.

Get Microsoft Security Essentials, a Microsoft program that actually works pretty good: http://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/security ... fault.aspx

I went AVG >> Avast >> Microsoft Security Essentials.
I'd agree Avast is an improvement on AVG these days, so either imo would be fine.
Unless you have a need for pay'd antivirus either of them would do a fine job

If you have a legit copy of windows and you're not using the MS anti-virus you are off your rocker :)

it's significantly better than the competition for home user and it's worth looking at in business too. I know at least one college who've switched out to it recently and we're looking at it for SBC too.

Might be worth checking with your bank / ISP.

Both of mine offer free security software that looks decent.
