I have a 2d logo in PNG format but I want it transformed into a 3d model so I can use it in a little intro section.

Basically I want to create something looking like this with the logo on the left side of this banner.

Any hints and tips on what program(s) are capable of this?

Notepad. Though that's probably because when I click on the first link I get

I would imagine that's a mixture of Photoshop, Flash and skill with both. The design side of things has always been my weakest area though so I could be wrong.

Aye I've seen programs that have their own photoshop like parts that could do something like that.

But yeah a basic flash animation program and anything to create the textures/gfx.
Been a long time though and i only did the art side really, so i would have no idea what to recommend.
I'll poke a friend see if she can help.
Have a look on this maybe see if anything here would work.

You could use a mixture of programs.

Quickest way to do simple 3D shapes and volumes is to use Google Sketchup... it literally takes seconds to learn. The downside is the rendering engine is pish, so you're going to need something a little more meaty to render it up, I used to use ArtLantis but I'm not sure if it still exists.

Other alternatives you could try are listed below, but they're all pretty powerful tools with a steep learning curve.

3D Studio Max
Maya
Rhinoceros

Hope this helps.
