I should finally get round to upgrading my OS and getting rid of Vista.
A few people have said that Windows 7 is great comparatively but should I hold on and go straight to Windows 8? From what I see of the 8 preview, it' a load of touch screen wank that they're focusing on.

So... Winfows 7 or 8? Your advice would be appreciated.

Havent heard anything thrilling about windows 8. It's supposed to have support for multiple monitors and things are supposed to run faster, not that win 7 is slow.

The touch ui and desktop in win 8 were supposed to be interchangeable, but a recent update has forced users to start with the touch interface regardless of what kind of device they're using.

Maybe best to wait til 8 is out and see if it's worth it before SP1. I don't think vista is so terrible since they serviced packed the shit out of it. It seems fine on my dads pc.
There may also be a cheap option to upgrade to win 8 from 7, like there is on new hardware purchases for £14.99 so could go for 7 now and upgrade later.

The few people I know that have been using Windows 8 for a while are saying it's likely to be another Vista or Windows ME. Anything that gets compared to ME is usually worth giving a miss. Most are rolling back to Windows 7.

Personally I'm not a fan of touchscreen stuff anyways, the kid's iPad is always covered in whatever they were eating and I can't stand finger prints on my screen when I'm working so it would be a nightmare for me as I tend to work through lunch.

I've been using Win 7 quite happily across my PC and dual booting the Macbook Pro with no problems whatsover. I'm really struggling to see what Win 8 has to offer as I don't have any touch screen devices.

I think the big appeal is that it will have the same UI to the Windows phone that you won't buy as you have an Android one, or the Windows tablet you won't buy because you have an iPad or realised that tablets are a waste of money and serve no purpose.

Got a new laptop for the wife today and it has Windows 8 on it. Not impressed with the UI at all. It's just stupid thinking that the touchscreen / app style interface is right for laptops and desktops. You don't even get a 'Start' button FFS and all of the apps things stay open with no intuitive way to close them so I guess they just sit there eating RAM and processor power. Not going near it for my main PC.

W7 unless you have a touchscreen..

W8 has been developed for touchscreens and if using it on a system without one it shows.

I have W7 64 and havent even thought about upgrading

Aye. That's what I went for. Didn't see the point of W8 on a desktop PC. W7 was also being sold for £39 on ebay. Cheers chaps.
