Finished it yesterday. Loved it. I found it far more enjoyable than Episode 1, and the original HL2. Some real "Jump out of your seat, defecate in your pants" moments. Also the ending was quite emotional!!

Loved the big fight sequence near the end too. Can't wait for Episode 3!!!

Ending was quite unlike anything I've seen in a game.
Left me wanting for more, and soon. But it's Valve so it will probably
take another 3 years for ep 3 ;(

Was loving the car aswell, much much better than the buggy. Plus it has
some nifty gadgets at the end aswell
Replayed it for the Developer Commentary, and I'm trying to get all the achievements. One of which is a real pain in the ass

I thought it was so-so.

The action sequences were well done. For example, the ant-lion shoot-out and the final strider fight. Some action sequences were piss poor tho, like the ambush at white inn or whatever its called.

I was hoping for some new guns, specifically the AR2 that one of the npcs was banging on about. Cant remember what he said the secondary fire was, but Im sure it was the hunter's weapon type.

The story was lacking. It did a 'Lost' and introduced more questions than answers, and as usual G-Man just babbled utter pish. I spotted the GMan once at the bridge where you get the car and for the first time in the HL series I thought it was tacky and out of place. The end was obvious - as soon as the scientist guy started banging on about Eli being too valuable to be caught, I knew he was gonna pop his clogs. Didnt expect it so soon though, and definitely not before Id fought a caretaker which I thought was the whole fucking purpose of introducing us to them in their natural form earlier in the game.

Good romp, but the series has had it's day. Can't fault Valve for perfection to detail as some of the environments had me picking my jaw off the floor, but theyve concentrated on the wrong thing and need to give us something better than eye-candy. I wasnt surprised it took them so long to release after the serially delayed Lost Coast level, I was just hoping for a little more originality and puzzles. In the end the only new entity in the game were the hunters.

I think the AR2 is the Combine Assault Rifle, the bolt thingy being the secondary fire.
Throwable objects are really the best thing to beat hunters though

I thought the ambush was really well done, wasn't really a surprise though, but I liked how they shot the windows and Hunters came through the roof

And by the caretaker you mean the advisors?

And yeah, the secondary fire on the rifle killed the Hunters in one shot. Apparently there is a good single player mod called Minerva. I'll check it out tonight and let you know.

Sec fire on the AR doesnt get me the "kill a hunter with its own flechettes", Arsenal Supporters.

you need to catch those flechettes with a log or tire or whatever and shoot it back at them

How many grubs have you killed nem? On my first run through I got 304/333, dunno if I cba looking for the rest.

The dog race and kill 30 with objects achievments are quite easy Im surprised you dont have those yet.

I know, first time I did the race I used the turbo and flew off the cliff
Second time I won with 2 fingers in my nose but that was in commentary mode

I came to 331, I've missed 2 somewhere but I'm at the end of the antlion levels
where you, alyx and the vort go up. So I'll probably have to do that part again.
(don't really like that level :/)

The main one I'm trying for the gnome in the rocket, which is a real pain.
But I've seen a vid, I think it was on gametrailers, where they showed you
that you can get the gnome stuck in the car. Just have to wedge it between
roof
