I'm on my way there now, actually. Don't suppose any of you lot are in that general area?

Anyway, a week of not doing anything, in a town I don't particularly care much about, at a hostel where there apparently are mould stalactites in the showers. It's going to be brilliant.

I'll probably spend the entire week drunk of my arse to be honest. What the fuck can you do in Belfast anyway, apart from getting robbed?

Grab a car and head to the North coast, go and see the Giants Causeway and call in at Bushmills to get a tour of the distillery.

If the weather is nice there are a few nice unspoilt beaches just outside Port Rush (don't go to the main beach at Port Rush though it's shit)

Either way have a nice time while you're over there and just ask your hotel to suggest places where you can go etc.

I've asked myself that several times while sitting here at London Stansted; connecting flight doesn't leave until 7:55 AM, and I arrived at 10:35 or somewhere around that time.

As for why... dunno. Wanted to get away from where I live, I suppose?

I don't have a driver's license, and even if I did I'd probably only kill myself, what with driving on the wrong side of the road and all. Cheers for the suggestions though, I'll most likely pop over to Giants Causeway, and will check out Bushmills for sure (shows where my priorities are, doesn't it?)

You rich fuck! Prices have tripled over there since they joined the EU I hear. It is nice though.

You can get buses pretty much to anywhere in Ireland.

Sorry I didn't see this earlier Azaz.

My wife is from Northern Ireland and I spend a fair amount of time over there. Agree with Neil's suggestions and would add:

Get the bus over to Derry (Londonderry), it's about 1.5 hours each way. You can walk around the city walls, visit the site of Bloody Sunday and see a fair bit of historical stuff associated with the troubles and further back.

In Belfast make sure that you visit a pub called 'The Crown', its opposite the Europa hotel, the most bombed hotel in the world.

You could also take the train from Belfast to Derry. Its a long journey because it goes all the way around the Antrim coast, but its got some of the most beautful scenery in Ireland. Here is a good webby for public transport over there http://www.translink.co.uk/

Too late! Too late!

Anyway, yeah. I did end up visiting Carrick-a-rede, some castle (what, you expect me to recall NAMES?), more coastline, and Giants Causeway. Didn't bother to visit The Crown, although I noticed it while walking around.

Decided that I'll walk Northern Ireland's coastline next year. Because it was awesome.

Yup it does have a fantastic coastline, I've been going to Northern Ireland regularly since I was 6 and I never get tired of the coast up there.

First time I took my wife I made her go to the Giant's Causeway...

If you're going back for the coastline then head further west and over the border into Donegal just outside Derry. I got married there and had the reception overlooking Lough Foyle, awesome.

The Antrim coast is lovely, but the Donegal coast is much bigger, more rugged and just totally spectacular. There's a road called Atlantic Drive which takes you round some of it and you'll find surfing beaches (yes - surfing) and water that's as clear as the Med, just a shitload colder. Places like malin Head and Slieve League are just stunning. 2,000ft high sea cliffs, the highest in Europe.

HERE

You could even get the Ferry out to Tory Island and meet the king. He walks around the place welcoming people. There's also a lovely little village called Muff just outside Derry. You must drive carefully when entering Muff. And it doesn't have a diving school despite being right on the coast ;)

You should get a fair trade what with the Island being populated by both notorious arse bandits, The Greeks and The Turks.

Make sure you eat their mezzes (sp?) - their multi course meals are amazing. The meat mezzes are fuckin awesome man. They're about 16 small dishes and you're totally stuffed by the end. My old dutch likes their seafood mezzes which are bigger, about 19. If you go to Akemas on siteseeing, make sure you get a jeep with decent suspension, because the roads up there are brutal. Are you gonna hit Agia Napa while you're there?

Sorry if this is a derailing your thread Azaz. Get more Bushmills down you, and spit on the Port Rush snobs if you take Neileees advice.

Don't worry, I got home this wednesday anyway - didn't have time to stay for more than a week, since I've some family matters to take care of (my father's b-day was yesterday, and he wanted the family gathered for some reason). As I said though, I'm returning next year for some coastline experience.

I did the meze thing a couple of times, it was good. Shame their wine is pish, but still it was cheap.

I did plan on lots of things, seeing the ghost town, swimming in lagoons, driving up mountains and all that shizzle, but then i realised two weeks in the sea and pool was actually what I needed :D
