I am feeling the need to play some sort of empire/city/society building game, and am about to re-install CIV3 (again) and give it another whirl.

Before I do, can anyone suggest a good alternative?

I have seen that there is a CIV4, but wondered if there was another Civ/Age of Empires sort of game that I can use to kill a few spare mins every now and then.

Thanks for any suggestions, and hope you are all well!

Maui

Further to the above.... turns out I have Civ4 already, and thats the one i have played loads of times :)

Thought Civ3 looked a bit dated

The new Total War game is good apparently, the Empire one, just been updated too.

Dunno if thats "city'ish" enough for you though...

there's an idea, thanks Macey.
Long time no speak by the way :)

I played Rome TW a lot, and used to love the battles.

I will put it on the short list

Hey Beans,
If you mean the Command and Conquer games, then I agree they are great, but the real time nature of play means they are too engrossing for my needs :)

I need something i can pop onto for a few mins here and there, but drop like a hot spud if/when something comes up.

I just found an old game called 'Tropico' that I played for a short time many years ago and im giving that another whirl. Its not doing much for me yet, but if i give it some more time I may get into it.

I had Tropico, I hated it as it actually ends. WTF is the point in building up an island then it says game over after a certain amount of time? You may as well just play a game demo.

How's about the Tycoon games? Transport Tycoon was always one of my favourites.

Im quite far into Tropico now. I selected (by luck rather than judgement) to play an open ended game, that just carries on as long as i keep getting elected!

I think im up to year 2005 or something, but agree that if I had a 'victory condition' or a timed game, I would have finished it in one day.

Might try and get hold of a tycoon game. Tried rollercoaster tycoon in the past i think :)

Transport tycoon was the best of the lot of the tycoon/theme style games not sure if there is an up to dte version of it kicking around anywhere though, the copy I had uses EMF/XMF memory

Also you might like settlers if you like Civ, personally I've been playing the dorf fortress game Az posted, or the latest X3: Terran Conflict for space fun which has a steep learning curve to start with but is bascially an up to date version of Elite, & it's a beautiful game to play where you have a lot of scope to do what you like or follow some of the rpg plot lines as/when you choose.
