Are any of you guys board game players, I don't mean as in WH40k, but something that requires a board or a series of boards to be assembled in order to play rather than just a free form table top game?

I've just bought Super Dungeon Explore for my son and I to build and play over the summer and wondered what other games like this there would be to play that could be good fun and also help teach him structure in games like this. I've been watching some of the watch it played series and I have Space Hulk already sat on the shelf waiting to be built to play that too, so we've a video game type, and a sci fi sort of game for the summer, something maybe more classic or war related could be a good one to complete the triangle.

He's really been getting into stat based games such as Pokemon and Dragon Quest on his 3DS and I thought a board game linked to similar things would help him grasp the mechanics behind the game better.

I've never really been a board gamer, but I think it will help me chill out a little and be a good way of spending more time with the wee man over the summer, so any ideas and suggestions are welcomed.

Pandemic is awesome, it's a board game that's co-operative.

Zombiecide is epic (survival game vs zombies!).

Dreadball is good - (speedball on a board game)

Bloodbowl (fantasy American football)

Smallworld is fun, as is ticket to ride.

Thanks matey, Pandemic sounds good and one of my students recommended ticket to ride as well in fairness.

I think some of the others might be a little too adult for him still...

By amazing coincidence I have just changed job and now work again with an old friend (he was the one who got me into WoW and was Mischief in the gings)

He enjoys playing board games with his bro and mentioned a few that are in this thread. I think im getting an invite next time they play :)

I will ask him if he has any other faves and will post here if so.

Nice one, looking forward to seeing how you get on. I'm pretty new to the board game thing...

Played a ton of board games and table top games over the years.

Space hulk would have to be one of my favs, try to get the deathwing addon too for more flavour to it. Also Blood bowl is one of the all time best sports style board games ever, team progression with simple style and versatility of play can't be matched easily.

I used to enjoy Heroquest aswell and there are other more advanced D&D board versions.

Power Grid and Arkham Horror are two great board games. Carcassone and Settlers ought to be mentioned. While a card game, Dominion's good too.
