Ranked servers are kinda fun, good teamplay and you can unlock weapons and stuff.

I only got 5 medals yet.

I haven't even got the demo. The other BF games never seemed to last 5 minutes and my PC would struggle with this one so I'm gonna give it a miss.

That's weird, i have more than a 1000 points, but in BFHQ it shows 99x of whatever, i'm soooo close for my next rank

I took the Jackhammer since i'm playing engineer like 99% of the time: Full auto shotgun, very effective close combat and that's what i need when i'm jumping out of my tank.

Got an X800PRO on my wishlist, some pretty decent prices now on NewEgg.
Game will look soooo much better than with my crappy FX5500.

I have all settings on low, if all goes well i can get all of the eye candy with that card.

If you're on a budget get a 6600GT olav - it should allow you to see most of the eye candy anyways/


I have it on good authority that RAM improves -performance alot on this - 2gb or above apparently vastly improves game experience.

This a game worth playing then? if you guys are giving it ago I will buy it the wife is away for 3 weeks on a training course, so could use something to do along with trying to get my ickle hunter up in WoW.

It's ok, nothing great, if you like BF1942 then you will like it as it has the same old formula and problems.

I am enjoying it, slowly getting my head around the physics. It isn't as good as say CS:S but it's a nice little game to play for a few hours on a Sunday afternoon.

Wedding went great thanks. Been to busy having the time of my life since I got married to think about doing anything else, but I am about to start having alittle bit of a play again. Have ordered it to see what it looks like.

You cannot compare this game with CS:S.

It's much fun if you're playing with squads, i'm playing on the same server many times, that's good fun because teamwork is really paying out there.

playing as a commander is good fun also, calling in arti strikes, make sattelite scans and stuff. Got 2 new ribbons last night, took a while.

Well you can, they are both team based FPS, except that BF2 has vehicles.

Also, both games have poor hitbox issues

Tried support class for a couple of days, it's totally not worth playing it. The gun is shit too.

Pretty much the same as mine atm, cept ive a 6600gt and it's very playable. Just got it yesterday, there's server lag which is a pain but general gfx wise its fine. Takes quite a while to load though.

How do I join a server via the All Seeing Eye? It starts BF but then BF goes looking for a (random?) server that takes ages to find. And then it takes some more minutes to load all kind of other stuff so that I find myself finally playing on some server located in Pittsburgh USA, not the UK server I chose with ASE.

Do I also need a new PC to play this game?

got things running at medium (1024*768*32)now, and runs fine. In the beginning I had some old mobo drivers that made smartgart run at 0x agp and was nearly unplayable ;/

I'm sticking to the multiplay ones atm cos its easier to filter them out. Can't get on the official uk ones as i always get 'There is a problem with your connection' message after i get in the map.

How long does it take everyone to get the client verified after the map loads? Mine seems to take ages.

I had the same worries but it turns oout ok, though at times seems a bit slow and buggy.

Shots dont register, especially sniper shots, mad gfx lag while FRAPS is telling me I'm getting a steady 60fps, mad net lag with a ping of 25.

Yesterday I shot a complete clip from my pistol into some sneaky sniper, yet he didnt die, he turned around and knifed me =/

It's the worst 40 euros spend in the last 6 months imo.

yeah the hit reg took me some time getting used to, but its ok..

n3m has obvously got his hax sorted out for this as well as CS :p

Gotta say I am glad I bought it, its a great distraction from the fast pace of CS, and you can actually have a good laugh although getting steam rolled off vehicles I have jumped out of when they bounce back of a wall is not funny at all.

Nah, havent played WoW in 2 or so weeks.

Fact is EA never produced a decent online FPS game. They decided to build their own physics engine instead of using the perfectly good engines used for HL2 or Doom 3. The pace of the game is too slow, maps are immense compared to the number of players, by the time u get to the action it's changed sides so u're pretty much fux0red.

And I won't start about the netcode used or the ingame server browser which shows me 120+ pings on all servers out there, yet when I join I'm pinging in @ 25 apparently. I guess where they made this game 28k8 modems were still r0x0ring the devs b0x0rz.

EA just put out BF1942 with a different GUI.

i can agree on EA's side of support, that's not too good but for the rest, i don't have the problems you describe here.

BF1942 had some issues with netcode and registering shots, BF2 imo is a lot better.

Oh, i tried the sniper gun, it does suck tbh.

You know what a waste of money is? The MSI 6600GT i ordered, i returned it right away for a money refund.

Almost no difference than with my crappy old FX5500, unbelievable.

i have 2 msi 6600gts and they fkin rock tbh, cant see y u didnt see any difference, maybe u need the Sli thing for em to be worth it :/

I play with most settings on low, some medium.

With the GTS i tried a combo with high/medium but that did not satisfy me.

i run bf2 on medium settings throughout, just cos it runs perfectly like that, i reckons i could push for high, but i cba cos itd probably do nasty things to my fragile lil pc

The air physics are a bit poo. There's no improvement in ground movement at all. God help you if you aren't in a vehicle.

I was very disappointed in it. Desert combat is still a far better and more enjoyable game.

I disagree, never played desert combat but I hated BF1942 it just didn't feel right, but I've started to get into BF2, I suck at it big time but I enjoy playing it and don't feel competitive in it at all, my KD ratio is crap but I'm quite happy now I've unlocked a gun and I just pootle around trying to kill shit.

I think I am getting less and less competitive as the years go by tbh.

Grouped with Calaen the other night and had a few laughs (our driving skills are lacking somewhat)

Not about Competitiveness - I can do very well in it on most maps. I just hate the feel. I find I am now so used to CS:S that the movement in BF2 is just horrid. Add in the people who know how to use the crouch stand crouch stand dance to make themselves nigh on unhittable and you have a very frustrating 1v1 fps experience.

If you take the infantry side out of the game and turned it into pure vehicle on vehicle then I think you'd have a winner every time. Unfortunately as it stands, I just don't like getting out of the vehicles at all.

The imbalance between air and ground is also (if anything) worse in this incarnation than ever before.

I know you didn't like BF1942 but I strongly suggest that you try the latest desert combat release and compare the experience in that to that of BF2. It's so much more fluid. The aircraft are much more fun and everything is more playable. Having said that, if you're all enjoying it, more power to your elbow. You'll find me in WoW and playing CS:S

Well you probably know how I find this game cause I dont think I have evre posted as much on this forum about anything else. Really think its great starting to get the hang of the aiming and shooting lark and my Kdr is getting closer together, although I find with BF2 I dont get annoyed as much when I die like I do on CS.

The main reason I enjoy this game is the shear size of the maps you can run around in a crazy battle zone or try and sneak past the defenders and get a foot hold for your team whether you are in a squad or not. Just need to get Sifty's ass into gear and get his ass online

I play the same servers as Fisher Freddyshouse now have 3 servers 2 x 64 man servers and 1 x 16 man for people that like smaller scale fights.

If anyone wants to try out the Medic unlock give me a shout and you can rob it from my pack when I die. Massive improvement on the standrard gun.

I installed the game last night and had a quick play on the single player map. Hoping to get online tonight. Player name is Sifteh as some b'stard has already nicked Sift and Sifty. Last time I played an online FPS I think it was Delta Force 2 so you'll probably find me lying down somewhere.
Apart from the fact that my gfx card keeps slowing itself down because it's getting too hot (framerates drop badly and make it unplayable) this game looks like it will be quite a laugh.

I can't get on any of them, always get a 'there is a problem with your connection' as soon as the map loads

just remembered although the server is a 64 man server the 63rd and 64th slots are reserved. So if it shows 62 of 64 playing you will not be able to log on the server and will get a message saying you have lost connection or have been kicked or some other message. They are waiting on some patch thing which will show the server as full before you try and connect .

i had a quick go on there, was a nice server, bf 1942 always suffered on the bigger servers but the net code doesnt seem that bad.
Though aiming for me is still a bug bare, I cant fathom out why if i pump a guy full of lead at close range he can still kill me even though he starts shooting a second or so later. I know im no Terminator but still not even im "that bad"

Its been well done loved how they shot the beach scene, had people at work saying was shite ppl wouldnt just be sitting around chilling. But I liked how they showed you that everyone reacts different to situations that are thrown at you. watched the first 3 episode last night between Ch4 and E4 at 11:00 and its ticking along nicely.

There is alot of spoilers on sites out there so im trying to keep away from reading about it to see if I can work out where the feck they are/what is going on on my own.

And what do you think the "thing" is in Lost? My old boy thinks its an animal of sorts but those noises weren't animal-like. Sounded like the whistles and horns you get on the docks or in a factory. I'm sure its mechanical.

yeah im leaning towards mechanical tbh, I also think the island must have been being used for something by someone. Nice to watch and get some more information on it, at last there is something worth watching on tv.

Is this the first season of Lost you're on about? I got all the episodes a month or two ago but sort of lost interest at about episode 10 or something. Still got the others to watch though if I get the time.
