Not sure how many people have seen this but ill post here anyway. Saves having to re-encode files to a codec that the 360 supports.

Background

It would have been great if Microsoft had designed Media Center Extenders including the Xbox 360 with the ability to play back a wide range of video but they don’t.

Instead support is limited to DLNA compliant formats such as MPEG2 and WMV9 (optional) with the notable exception of MPEG4.

This is were Transcode 360 comes in.

What is transcoding?

A transcoder is a process that converts media from one format to another, in this case to high-quality MPEG2 for streaming to a Media Center Extender device such as the Xbox 360.

As of Beta 2, Transcode 360 can transcode faster than real-time, this is an advantage not afforded by other products which are for the most part, either real-time or batch solutions.

One obvious benefit of faster than real-time transcoding is that it is now possible to skip over advertisments in recorded TV footage using Transcode 360.

Why?

A large number of people have an investment in digital video content that is encoded using MPEG4 based compression; some of it legitimate, some of it illegitimate.

Transcode 360 will operate transparently and without prejudice, transcoding and streaming your video files back to your Xbox 360 or Media Center Extender for playback in real-time.

New Dash update today Xui. Am I right in thinking I can now stream all my Hardcore from my PC into my 360 bedroom?

Hmmm, are you streaming through WMP11??

When I tried to play my first Divx it poped up saying I needed to download a free Codec through Xboxlive. Once I did that It was fine.

You need to sort it out Xui. It is the money!!!

errr im just accessing through media centre coz Ajax fans Xbox360 wont see most of my shared folders .. yet my Xbox will so i know they wok ..

Think they have to be within the the default myvideos folder under your documents. You can have as many folders as you like within that, but they have to be in there.

no way am i moving 400gb of movies to that drive plus they would fit on it anyway and i cant be arsed moving a file when i want to watch it ..

Ill stick with transcoding

Can't you move your MyVideos folder or atleast the shortcut to it's location?

aye ive managed to do music and pictures but for some reason it just wont take the path change for video ..

Weird .. just had a look and it had defaulted back to its original location. So ive changed it and ill see if that works..
