After getting pissed off to the max with my Creative Live 5.1 I am upgrading to a new soundcard.

I wanted to avoid anything creative as I have been steadly more and more frustrated with the soundblaster series of sound cards and their 'features' ;)

I have ordered a
http://www.dabs.com/uk/channels/compone ... klinx=21RZ

and also have a new headset being delivered. They have been packed in the van and are on their way to me as I type this! :)

I am also on a half day tomorrow so I plan to leave work at 1pm, get home and go for a mop chop, then collect my new stuff from my parents house and return home to test my lovely new stuff! :)

Anyone used terratec before? I have heard alot of good things about their sound products.

I haven't used terratec for years and then only once, it killed my system and got promptly returned for the pos that it was. It was some turtle head card or something and was seriously about 6 years ago.

This was when they were trying to bring in 3D audio prior to EAX etc...

What headset are you getting?

For interest found this at Tomshardware

http://www4.tomshardware.com/consumer/2 ... index.html

Conclusion:

Terratec better for music recording
Audigy better for games.

Although after my Audigy 1 I would probably try and avoid SB cards myself when I get round to upgrading :)

been using the kx drivers for a few weeks now, those seem to work about 7x better than the creative ones. plus theres a nifty boost slider so I dont have to crank my hts volume up to 50 to get a little bit of sound :s

still no 5.1 on my live! 5.1 tho.. it's stereo and has a digital out on it =/

Yeah I bought it on recommendation 'Sic

Essentially it's cheaper (not much) than the audigy2 platinum and my basic spec for a sound card was

Good Sound (VERY GOOD SOUND) as I plan to record my albums on to mp3 via the phono in etc

Break out Box or Front Panel for ease of access

Not Creative!

I was throwing ideas around the guys at work and everyone said the same thing. IF you want a top sound card get the terratec 6fire. Spoke to alot of audiophiles if you know what I mean.

Next month I think I'll buy some thx speakers and at goosefest I may well sit my pc downstairs with the speakers all set out for ultimate tunage!

The Turtle Beach cards are supposed to be sweet too, but i've not heard anything out of them. Although they only seem to do low end cards now. I remember them doing some expensive ones a few years ago

Ive got a hercules 7.1 fortissimo, but with usb plantronics headphones it makes no difference as it uses those as a soundcard when they're plugged in. I need to get a decent pair of normal headphones cos this soundcard aint too shabby

I bought a pair of these a couple of months back and they are pretty good so far, only criticism is that the mic is too good and people complain that I am too loud on vent and they can make your ears a wee bit warm but the sound on them is mint.

£60 for a pair of bins!!!? You know in less than a year you'll be holding them together with elastic bands and dog spittle.
